Part of a multi-year master plan for campus expansion, the patient tower project’s transition team needed a single-source solution for the planning and execution of the entire relocation, which posed several challenges:

  • Time: The project’s schedule presented a tight timeframe.
  • Space: Since the hospital was built in 1930, the hallways, elevators, and access points were smaller than was typical.
  • Logistics: Multiple buildings on campus could only be accessed from certain floors, creating a routing challenge for the movement of existing furniture to the new tower and to other buildings on campus.

We navigated through these challenges by:

  • Devoting two experienced project managers to the project, who managed the following services:
    • Transition planning
    • Move management
    • IT disconnect/reconnect
    • Clinical engineering support services
    • Disposition modeling
    • Technology integration
    • Lab prep/movement
    • Pharmacy prep/movement
    • Artwork consult
    • GREEN consult for transition
  • Designing strategic move routes and handoffs to increase efficiency
  • Providing additional services to reduce unnecessary piece movement and vendor contacts
  • Setting up furniture distribution points to allow others to view and select items for their workspaces
  • Facilitating an employee sale for remaining items to bring additional revenue to the hospital and reduce landfill waste
  • Creating a recycling initiative for metal parts
