GWS, the Relocation Company that Simplifies the Complex

All healthcare transition projects contain some level of complexity, and this particular project was certainly no exception. The job requirements: consolidate multiple physician clinics around a major city into one medical office building, and at the same time, activate a new hospital – and a new cancer center.

Creative Solutions in Move Management

The 550,000 square foot, 181-bed hospital included a 220,000 square foot clinic, while the 33,000 square feet, 14-exam room cancer center included 20 chemo infusion bays. The tight timeline and budget that drove this project only added to the challenge. We moved thousands of linear feet of X-ray jackets from off-site storage into a shell space, on-site at the new hospital. This process saved the client money in the form of storage costs as well as ease of operational efficiency until they could get digitized.

Preparing People for Change

During this project, we piloted the use of move manuals, where every department received binders of critical information such as schedules, timelines, and key contacts. This key resource kept employees informed and connected throughout the duration of the project. We’ve evolved this resource and made it even more robust and user-friendly.

Empowering the Community

Over time, we’ve helped OCP, a minority-owned company, grow their business by mentoring them on various healthcare projects. For this particular project, a team of eight shadowed our Senior Vice President for the duration of the project – and also attended a local Jonesboro Church with him on Sundays.

“I was on-site for six weeks for this project. We had to coordinate and collaborate to keep schedules stacked, and balance everything against the need to keep patient care continuous. We managed all of the different integrated schedules, access points, and critical equipment transitions. Not only were we able to manage the move, but we also did some pretty awesome mentoring as well.”
