Sustainable Solutions in Action: A Decommissioning Project That Made a Difference

Celebrating Earth Day with Real-World Impact!

This Earth Day, we’re highlighting a powerful example of how thoughtful planning and sustainable practices can turn a routine office decommissioning into a meaningful contribution to both the environment and the community.

Client Background

Our client—a global leader in information technology—specializes in hardware, software, and services, particularly in computing, imaging, and printing systems. Faced with the need to vacate a full office floor for subletting and lease negotiations, they were working within a strict budget and a tight timeline caused by construction delays. With our extensive experience in office moving and commercial relocations, we were the best partner for the job.

Our Sustainable Approach

Using our sustainable decommissioning program, we developed a detailed asset disposition plan focused on landfill avoidance, cost-efficiency, and community impact. By prioritizing recycling, donating, liquidating, and other environmentally conscious strategies, we maximized asset life-cycle extension and minimized waste.

Community Outreach

Through early engagement, we collaborated with local police departments, nonprofits, schools, and businesses to coordinate large-scale donations. This proactive communication ensured that valuable furniture and equipment found new life in the community.

Smart Recycling, Repurposing & Cost Efficiency

We disassembled nondonatable items—like file cabinets, desks, chairs, and cubicle systems—into metal, wood, and other materials to maximize recycling.

Creative thinking led to repurposing cabinet counterweights for local landscaping, proving asset life-cycle extension goes beyond the ordinary.

By leveraging strong supplier partnerships, we also delivered additional services at reduced costs, staying within budget while maximizing environmental and community impact.

Impact at a Glance

These metrics were measured and reported through our service delivery model, LINKTM

Outcome Amount
Donated Furniture 45 desks, 20 file cabinets, 75 chairs, several other pieces
Reallocated to Local Organizations 19,700 lbs
Taken to Recycling Plant 66,020 lbs
Landfill Waste 57,600 lbs (minimized through all other methods)

Through a combination of donations, recycling, and reuse, this project diverted a significant portion of assets away from landfills—supporting a circular economy and promoting sustainability in the workplace.
